Here in Mrs. Hurley's science class we are trying to cultivate and refine the two most important skills of a scientist: notice and wonder. Having strong observation skills and creating good questions for investigations are the heart of science. We are surrounded by nature and beauty; we are so fortunate!
A little bit about Mrs. Hurley:
With more than 16 years of classroom experience, Ana Hurley provides expertise and insight on the design and delivery of science curriculum. For the past 11 years she has taught seventh-grade life science at Dover Sherborn Middle School, in addition to serving in various leadership positions such as Team Leader and Science Curriculum Coordinator. This year she created the Middle School Science Summit, a collaboration of more than 16 school districts to prepare for the new Massachusetts STE standards.
Ms. Hurley presented at the Massachusetts Science Teacher Association’s (MAST) annual conference on curriculum revision/new standards in 2014 and 2015, and in November 2015 presented an interdisciplinary unit featuring Nature, Art and Poetry with Laura Mullen and award-winning author Joyce Sidman at the annual convention of National Council of Teachers of English (NCTE).
For the first five years of her career, Ms. Hurley taught biology, chemistry, and anatomy & physiology at the high school level in Massachusetts. She holds bachelor degrees in biology and philosophy from Emory University, a master’s degrees from Harvard University’s Graduate School’s (Mind, Brain and Education) and Salem State University (Field Based).
